37 Gainesville, FL Experimental Influenced by: “I spent the first 10 years of my life in a household of seven adults living with my grandparents aunts and uncles. Each of them had their own musical taste and I was a little sponge absorbing it all. Music is always playing in my head and sometimes it comes to me in dreams. I’m attempting to share what I hear inside and make music that takes you somewhere unexpected, like a good film.”
22 Orlando, FL Downtempo, Electronic R&B Influenced by: “I would describe most of my music as vulnerable because I’m trying to capture how everyone feels during those moments in intense encounters or relationships. Without women, my music wouldn’t exist.”
25 + 3/4 Miami Beach Rock ‘n’ Roll Influenced by: “There isn’t a single source of inspiration yet an opportunity to build something out of nothing. We’re all alchemists. See the truth beyond the mass and understand what beauty is, break free.”
31 New York Deep house / Singer, songwriter Influenced by: “I was involved in symphonic and jazz bands growing up, and started a career in music as a singer songwriter in the late 90s. After high school I joined the military. It was short lived due to a terrible motor vehicle accident in 2003. After my discharge, I moved to NYC to further pursue music and was introduced to the underground house music scene in the city.”
26 Bushwick, NY & Daughter of Gainesville Hip Hop + Opera, ‘hip hopera’ Influenced by: “My influences come from all that surrounds me. There is a term ‘tropicalia’ or “cultural cannibalism,” which is the idea that we internalize our environment- musical, artistic, landscape, people- and use it to create something completely unique to our person; to our tribe.
24 Santa Fe (Now New York) Influenced by: “I’m always moving and I find that home is wherever I happen to be. I grew up and continue to live in little pools of one extreme or another, and have developed a slight distaste for mediocrity. I like to experiment with the things I don’t understand or scare me – memory, fear, reality, etc. I’m currently finding inspiration in my own internal conflicts and alter egos.”
